Putting The Positive Attitude Into Your Self-Improvement

It's a new year and you have made some self-improvement goals. You feel that they are worthy goals and that you can achieve them. One of the most important steps that you can take to assure your success is to put on a positive attitude. Positive thinking can energize you, give you a self-confident boost and keep you motivated. A positive attitude is like a piece of clothing you put on in the morning. A positive attitude can make your life easier. Having a positive attitude is something you deliberately do, and is not something that we are born with. It is just as easy to learn to have a positive attitude, as it is to have a negative one. Which attitude you put on in the morning is up to you.

How To Keep In The Positive Zone

There are many ways to keep the positive thinking going. One is to reward yourself for the small steps you take towards your goal. Each achievement along the way brings you closer to the final achievement.

Treat yourself well by getting plenty of rest, eating nutritious meals and snacks and by surrounding yourself with encouraging and supportive people.

Wake up every morning, look at yourself in the mirror and say to yourself "I can do this. I am confident that I can reach my goal."

Keep a journal of every step forward you have achieved towards your goal and how you felt after reaching that step.

Tell someone about your successes.

Having at least one special person who knows about your goal can give you the chance to share what you are going through, can give you a cheerleader, and someone to uplift you if you stumble.

Having a "I can do this" attitude is not always easy when you hit those potholes along the way to your goal. We all get discouraged at times. It is those times when your positive attitude can pull you up and get you going again. Keeping a goal journal and filling it with the reasons for wanting to reach your goal as well as making notes about all the small achievements you have accomplished along the way can be a great encouragement for those low points.

A secret to being successful at self-improvement is to surround yourself with successful people. Find people who are achieving what you want to do and find a way to be with them. Join organizations, community classes, wherever they are, do your best to join them. Their positive attitude will be contagious. Success breeds success and you will feed off of their positive energy. You can't help but feel good when you are achieving your goals.

Positive people smile more and have less stress in their lives. They look confident because they carry themselves with an air of self-confidence that is visible to those around them. Take note of what this looks like, and then look at yourself in a mirror.... are you smiling, are you holding your head up, is your chin lifted up? Are you standing up and not slouching? Do you walk with purpose? Even if you do not feel particularly confident at this very moment, looking the part will make you feel like you are confident. Try it and see. There is just something about a smile that makes you feel better.
